I have been playing some video games of late, mostly PC based. For Christmas Santa got me a copy of Assassins Creed III for the Xbox, played an hour seems like good fun. Spent a lot of time in Pandaria since it hit, well, I did until December. Then I got a little bored and decided it was time to try some oldies in preparation for some new upcoming games.
Diablo III: Standard Edition
Mists of Pandaria aka World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria
Now until the last few weeks I had laid Diablo aside, blame it on Pandaria. Then I got my cyclical World of Warcraft boredom and broke out Borderlands Mac. Pandaria is a great expansion and there went a few months of my gaming life. iLVL 468 now on my Alliance Hunter (Horto of Elune), still need some pieces to get into the higher parts of LFR (Raids with Strangers) with iLVL 470 gear.
I had played some BL on the Xbox but got stuck and put it away when it came out in 2009-2010. I purchase BL for Mac off the Apple Store for a giggle a week before Christmas and found playing with the mouse just more my style. Completed the game in a few weeks and went to look for more hack and slash. Interestingly the PC version of BL went to 7.75 for Christmas and we bought copies for the kids and a couple of their friends! A week after I spent 29.95 for the Mac version.
I was playing Borderlands so I could be ready to enjoy Boderlands 2, birthday anybody? I got one coming up!
Diablo III: Standard Edition
Now I am back to ….. Diablo III was hard on inferno mode, especially my favorite class, Demon Hunter. I had not played more than a couple hours since they had released 1.05/1.06 and had only one paragon level and still crappy gear. Playing solo was almost impossible to farm for gold or equipment. My nephew had played a lot and gave me some loot and it got me playing again. Now at level 60-9 Paragon I have 3 pieces of the Natalya set and a bow that pushes back foes into my carefully laid traps. Life is good. I have been playing a trapper hunter and have fine tuned my build. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/ThePoetKing-1400/hero/1471799
The latest news about the 1.04 update has some exciting news. A hundred levels of Paragon. Each Paragon level will give you stat boosts and 3% more gold and treasure find. The border of your character portrait will change every 10 levels so people you are playing with know you have become uber l33t!
I want more trunk space, where am I going to put all the loot?
The magic find will top out at 300 (Before Nephlem Valor) This means the stat will mean less and less on your gear as you get your way to level 100 Paragon.

So far I have been enjoying Diablo III. I have been plugging away at it and so far have a level 41 Demon Hunter who is in Nightmare Act II. Above is my so originally named “Batman”.
Diablo III is a game that pits you and up to 3 others against a world that gets more difficult as you play. While playing the Beta a lot of people remarked that it was “too easy”. Well the part of the game that was included in the open beta was indeed simple. The entire first act (of four acts) was created for you to learn the controls and basic game play. It was not challenging especially to people used the Diablo and Diablo II games. When you finish the first four acts that compromise the basic game or normal then you unlock the next difficulty level. Normal, Nightmare, Hell and Inferno. I have been challenged by the Nightmare difficulty level because I was not careful about my weapon…..
I like the idea of shooting the bad guys from range. The Demon Hunter character type is good for my preferred style of play. With spells and shots that slow his enemies you can trap and tumble as much as you want.
To let you customize your game play you can choose to put gems in weapons and armor that have “sockets”. Gems start out tiny in the game but you can combine three like colored gems to create the next better gem type (or cut). This is nice when you have an advanced character and start a new one, you can use hand me down gems that give you better stats earlier in the game.
You earn gold in the game and you can spend it on what others find in the game in the public Auction House. If you look you can find weapons that might have dropped while others were playing that you have not seen. The Legendary weapons generally do better DPS than the common or “Rare” weapons and I have not found one in my game. I have purchased them for others to USE in my game though, and they make the more difficult levels a little less difficult.
I am still exploring and will review more soon. I am looking forward to being able to play with friends in Europe, that should be working soon. Until next time, may your sword be true and extra pointy.
My Diablo Witch Hunter
I have been enjoying my Diablo III play. My Witch Hunter is good at the Pew Pew.
Although the first Act was fairly easy, things heat up a bit between Acts Two and Four. I actually died a few times. I have played some Hard Mode as well, my Barbarian has made it to level 9 without dying. I play in short bursts and I try to be very careful. I know it will end in tears but hey, I am a big boy.
Diablo III was released this morning at 12:01 PST. I stayed up and tried to log in but servers were busy. That was 2:00 am my time, I had a big nap. After 30 minutes I gave up and went to sleep. This morning 6:00 am on the second try I am in and playing with no problems. Others seem to be having some issues as Google Plus is full of error 37 (Server Busy) jokes.
I played the beta that went through the first chapter. I have passed that already in a couple hours of play this morning. I admit I like the archer character so far. I played the wizard during the beta and that was fun too! A more in depth review after some more play!
Works for me
