My Diablo Witch Hunter
I have been enjoying my Diablo III play. My Witch Hunter is good at the Pew Pew.
Although the first Act was fairly easy, things heat up a bit between Acts Two and Four. I actually died a few times. I have played some Hard Mode as well, my Barbarian has made it to level 9 without dying. I play in short bursts and I try to be very careful. I know it will end in tears but hey, I am a big boy.
Diablo III was released this morning at 12:01 PST. I stayed up and tried to log in but servers were busy. That was 2:00 am my time, I had a big nap. After 30 minutes I gave up and went to sleep. This morning 6:00 am on the second try I am in and playing with no problems. Others seem to be having some issues as Google Plus is full of error 37 (Server Busy) jokes.
I played the beta that went through the first chapter. I have passed that already in a couple hours of play this morning. I admit I like the archer character so far. I played the wizard during the beta and that was fun too! A more in depth review after some more play!
Works for me

A few weeks ago when we were purchasing a second XBOX for the house we were hard pressed by the “guy behind the counter” at the Columbia, TN Games Stop to put down money to reserve a Vita. He went on and on for far longer than we wanted about the Vita in the middle of our purchase of loaded Xbox. Wife and I were annoyed because it was late, we had kids with us, we were spending hundreds of dollars already that day and the guy would NOT SHUT UP. Our regular Game Stop is in Spring Hill but they didn’t have the model/bundle of Xbox we wanted and it was the last evening of a $50.00 off said bundle.
So I have noticed people micro blogging about the Vita on various sites as it seems to be have released this week. Jack Hardman on Google+ had this to say…..
“My initial thoughts on Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the PSVita are that it is a very beautiful game, the platforming controls work very well on the handheld, and it keeps the same sense of epic adventure that the console games in the series have. My only complaint is that targeting seems a bit off to me, like the analog sticks are not as responsive as they should be, this could just be because I am being very delicate with the machine or am just not used to how it controls yet.”
The Slash Gear review of the PSVita was very positive. The only caveat seemed to be when is the best time to play a mobile platform game. The reviewer seemed to be more phone guy than reviewer. He seemed to think the only time to play the Vita was while you were travelling or waiting for your food at a restaurant. I read another Slash Gear article assuring us that the PSVita was the last mobile platform from Sony.
I do not own a handheld other than my iPhone. (edit — Ok I lied. I have an iPad with AT&T 3g. Totally forgot about that, but hey, I am getting old and I don’t game as much on it as I should.) The 11 and 13 year old in the house have 2 or 3 different gaming systems of the handheld variety. (iPod Touch, iPhone, Nintendo DS XL and Nintendo 3d and both have Kindle Fires…) As non drivers they play them a lot in the car but also on the couch. I think there is a still a market for a good handheld no matter what Slash Gear bloggers think. Maybe not for adults, but there are a lot of kids out there who don’t drive and don’t own a smart phone yet….
As a “gamer” I have think we have not seen what the Vita can do yet. When titles that work on both the Vita and the PS3 are integrated and I can finish my game I started on the console in the car I might be more impressed. As someone who is not travelling a lot letting someone else drive (train ride, bus ride, wife dragging my sorry butt around) I don’t think I am in the “need” stage for the Vita. But maybe someday.
PlayStation Vita 3G/Wi-Fi Launch Bundle
I have been reading a couple of news bits around the web about an upcoming Xbox model console that will include the feature of not playing a previoously used Game. I think this is idiotic on several levels if it is true. I can understand Microsoft wanting to capitalize on sales of games and getting more revenue by taking the USED retail (Game Stop for example) and by mail Game Rental Companies (Gamefly.com) revenue stream but…… I now live in a Multi Xbox home. If I can play the games I buy on just one console I am going to be pissed. If Microsoft really wants to kill the second tier game sales market, they need to go all download and connect it to Xbox Live accounts. Of course that would require Live to be free (It should be, there are already too many advertisements in something for which I pay monthly.)
I think Steam has it right. I can download games and play them from anywhere I can log in from. Same currently with Xbox Live. I can re-download anything I have purchased from their store and play it.
I don’t see any bonus for the consumer for a new Xbox with such a feature, can you?
Last couple of days for Dell coupon for gaming laptop wiredforgames.com/last-couple-of…
The coupon code for Dell Alienware laptops lasts til Feb 1. The coupon code is V?3NR68R74T81X
For my birthday this year my wife was very generous. Pick out a laptop for talking on the road for gaming! She gave me a $1500.00 budget and told me we could order it a few weeks after my birthday. I was thrilled.
So every day I looked on the Internet and read reviews and scanned sales and cruised Amazon, New Egg and Dell Outlet. I read reviews. I carefully compared what games would do what FPS on what GPU.
Ok maybe I took one or two days off, but other than that, I was looking. This is what I found my needs were. I wanted a 17 inch computer. I wanted graphics in the NVidia 750 or AMD 6970 (M versions, for Mobile). I wanted a keyboard that was backlit and I wanted an core I7 processor. I wanted a 1920 x 1080 monitor. I was asking for a lot. Secondary was a second drive (that I could add later if I wanted) and minimum 8 GB Ram.
Ok I got close with a new computer. The MSI 780DX – 406. Not a great name but it had everything I wanted (NV 750M GPU) 12 GB RAM, Steel Series keyboard, 1920 by 1080 graphics on a 17 inch non glossy screen. And the price was close. 1549.00 from Amazon. And by the time I was ready to order a 100.00 dollar rebate. Awesome Sauce!
Yet…. I chose the Dell outlet Alienware with a slightly lesser video card, NVidia 560M. 8 gig HD and the 1600 by 900 69 HZ panel. Why? I used a friends 18x Alienware laptop a couple weeks ago and it was tank like. Beastly. And it contained the Nvidia 460 discrete video card and it was still smoking the FPS in Skyrim with the the video settings cranked up. The one I ordered came up on the Dell Outlet with 8 gigs of RAM and a 500 GB HD for 1329.00…. And there is a 20% off coupon code which made it too good of a deal to pass up. Also you can buy a new screen for 200 bucks off ebay any time you want that will get me the extra pixels if I feel I just have to have them. I ordered one year of MacAfee for 15.99 and a nice case for 54.00 and was still way below my budget.
The Alienware is refurbished, but has the standard year service via web and if that does not work they will send someone to my house. The Alienware has a SD card slot, the one my camera uses, that was a big plus. The Alienware has one interesting feature I had not seen on other laptops. An HDMI IN port, so I could plug in my Xbox or PS3 (I have both) into the port and the computer will support the video and sound for the incoming device. It also has a 720p camera so I can Google Hangout where ever I want to hangout.
There was enough money left over to order 2 copies of Office for Students off the Dell website for the two HP laptops her boys got for Christmas. I will Open Office and Google Docs my way thru, no Microsoft needed for myself.
I will be hanging out near the front door this Thursday, when Dell will deliver my beast!
So I have been playing a lot of Skyrim. More than any other game since I purchased it in November. Since then it became the most played game in hours for the entire year of 2011. This is pretty impressive when you consider it was only out 7 weeks of a 52 week year. And people had to finish their Christmas shopping…… Even more impressive. I will soon post a more in depth look into the most played game of 2011.
I would have done so sooner but I took an arrow to the knee……
